Watched Final Destination yesterday...
Watched Final Destination yesterday, which is a refreshing change from the normal shriek-run-and-die scary teen flicks like Scream or I Know What You Did Last Summer. It was about a guy getting a premonition that the plane he was about to board would run into trouble, and so he got off the plane with a couple of friends. Sure enough, the plane did explode and there were no survivors save for them.. but it didn’t stop them from dying anyway.
Somehow it had me thinking. In The Matrix, Neo was asked a simple question:
Morpheus: Do you believe in fate?
Neo: Because I don’t like the idea that I’m not in control with my own life.
Do you truly believe that our existence on Earth has been laid out nicely, since we were born? If it is, then can we escape from doing the things we have been bound to do?
I think I do believe in fate. There has been enough happenings in my life to denote that.. sometimes they’re more than just coincidences, more than just accidental happenings. Sometimes, some pieces seem to fit together. A path has been laid out in front of us.. and what we have to do is to just tread on it, going wherever it leads us. There can be no left or right turnings. It’s not like a snakes and ladders board either, where you can jump over an obstruction, or advance to the next level. The obstacles are already there, and it’s up to us to work it out. Again, is it that we are destined to successfully solve the problem, or to fail in our quest to overcome it?
As much as I like Neo’s answer, I feel that I’m not in control of my own life anyway.
